Allina Health announces new Center for Integrated Mental Health and Addiction Care

MINNEAPOLIS (Sept. 20, 2022) — Allina Health is excited to announce the development of a first-of-its-kind Center for Integrated Mental Health and Addiction Care. The revolutionary facility is poised to transform the delivery of mental health and addiction care by providing a comprehensive, connected, and convenient location for patients and families. The new center will be located at the current Interlude of Fridley building, attached by skywalk to Mercy Hospital - Unity campus.

“We know that creating more access to mental health and addiction services is an important priority for the communities we serve across Minnesota and throughout our region,” said Lisa Shannon, president, and CEO of Allina Health. “We know we do better when we work together and this revolutionary facility provides critical programs in one location, transforming our ability to provide patient-centered care and expand our capacity for mental health and addiction patients and their families.”

The Center will feature a variety of co-located partnerships to support Allina Health’s ability to meet the needs of our community. Canvas Health will provide mental health and addiction urgent care, Southern Anoka County Community Assistance (SACA) will provide food assistance, Anoka County Social Services will provide access to county programs and Touchstone will continue to support the mental health and addiction continuum by providing Crisis beds on the Center’s campus. Services from the Penny George Institute for Health and Healing will also enhance our ability to deliver Whole Person Care.

“We have intentionally developed the Center for Integrated Mental Health and Addiction to be an innovative hub for patients throughout the mental health and addiction continuum, ensuring they can receive the right care, at the right place, at the right time,” said Mary Beth Lardizabal, DO, Vice President of Mental Health and Addiction services at Allina Health. “This highly integrated facility allows us to more closely bring community-centered programs together to expand the capacity and reach of our collective mental health and addiction services, resulting in an enhanced model of providing safe, high-quality care for more patients in a very specialized way.”

Acquisition and renovation of the building that will become the Center for Integrated Mental Health and Addiction Care will be fully funded through a robust capital campaign led by Allina Health’s Philanthropy team. The facility will add more than 50,000 square feet of mental health and addiction care and will feature our full suite of outpatient services as well as intensive day programs. We expect renovations to the building to begin in 2023, with an anticipated opening in early 2024.
