Work of HeArt honors workers at Allina Health vaccine hub

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. (Dec. 30, 2021) — As the pandemic rages on and we approach a new year, health care workers continue to serve our community. Some of their work is deservedly being commemorated and recognized. 

The beauty that arises when people come together is now on display at Allina Health’s Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute in Golden Valley. The abstract painting is titled A Work of HeArt. 

As we look back on one year since the first COVID-19 vaccine was administered, we also celebrate the more than 56,000 people who were vaccinated at a COVID-19 vaccine hub which ran from January through June 2021 at Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute.

The many volunteers and Allina Health employees who ran the vaccine hub created the artwork. They were invited to add splashes of colorful paint—many hands taking part to create something powerful.

“When we come together we create an incredible picture of energy, hope and purpose,” said Lindsey Spitzer, RN, who had the idea for this work of art.

That quote is now inscribed on a placard next to the artwork.

The contributors held a variety of roles and duties: front desk greeters, security staff, runners, nurses and vaccinators. Spitzer said the art is meant to be inclusive and represent everyone who has worked tirelessly to help our communities throughout the pandemic.

Creating the artwork proved cathartic for many who worked at the hub, and it serves as a commemoration of the work, time and dedication they committed to the community.
