Allina Health Hospitals three of the best in the Twin Cities, says U.S. News and World Report

MINNEAPOLIS (July 27, 2021) — Allina Health’s Abbott Northwestern, Mercy and United hospitals were ranked first, second (tie) and fourth, respectively, in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan areas in the new U.S. News & World Report 2021-22 Best Hospitals rankings released today. Abbott Northwestern was ranked first in the Twin Cities and second in all of Minnesota for the ninth consecutive year.

In addition to its Twin Cities and state rankings, Abbott Northwestern Hospital received national rankings in two specialty areas: neurology and neurosurgery (#37), and cardiology and heart surgery (#44). Abbott Northwestern Hospital also received “high performing” ratings in several other areas, including diabetes & endocrinology, gastroenterology & GI surgery, geriatrics, orthopedics, pulmonology & lung surgery, and urology, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, colon cancer surgery, heart attack, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, hip replacement, kidney failure, knee replacement, lung cancer surgery, pneumonia, stroke, and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).

In addition to their second ranking in the Twin Cities, Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids received a ranking of fourth in all of Minnesota. They received high performing grades in pulmonology & lung surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), colon cancer surgery diabetes, heart attack, heart failure, hip replacement, kidney failure, knee replacement, pneumonia, and stroke.

United Hospital in St. Paul was ranked seventh in the state of Minnesota along with its ranking of fourth in the Twin Cities. United Hospital received high performing grades in ten separate specialty areas including colon cancer surgery, diabetes, heart attack, heart failure, hip replacement, kidney failure, knee replacement, lung cancer surgery, pneumonia and stroke.

Allina Health’s Buffalo Hospital also received its first national recognition with a high performing ranking for pneumonia care.
