Week-long design exercise set to create new patient, community-centered Faribault Medical Center cancer clinic

FARIBAULT, Minn. (June 2, 2022) — An innovative, week-long design process for a new cancer clinic at the Allina Health Faribault Medical Center will take place next week (June 6-10) at the hospital. Using the 3P method (for People, Preparation, Process), a collection of patients, community members and hospital staff will work through the five-day process to create a new patient-centered cancer care clinic design.

Scheduled to open in 2023, the new clinic extends the commitment of the Allina Health Cancer Institute to provide comprehensive cancer care close to home. Each patient's cancer care journey is a personal experience. The new clinic will be designed with the patient’s journey in mind  with dedicated areas to support patients, families, providers, and staff, and enhance care delivery.

The design process comes as the Faribault Medical Center has successfully completed a capital fundraising campaign for a new dedicated space to serve the community at the Allina Health Cancer Institute-Faribault (formerly the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute).

“We are grateful to the generous people of the greater Faribault area for their support of this project,” said Allina Health South Market President, Michael Johnston. “The clinic we envision will be a major step forward in the diagnoses, treatment and care of our patients and their families and could not have happened without kindness and support of our community.”

The Faribault Medical Center is using the 3P process to deliver on our promise to provide a space for high-quality patient-centered cancer care. 3P is a prototyping and simulation process used to move projects forward quickly and efficiently by including a variety of customers (patients, community members, staff, providers, support staff, leadership, etc.) in creating the design and flow of new medical facilities that meets the unique needs of patients.

“The successful fundraising in Faribault represents a great demonstration of the community, Allina Health Cancer Institute and the Allina Health Faribault Medical Center coming together to enhance cancer care in the south region,” said Badrinath Konety, MD, Allina Health Cancer Institute President. “The new cancer clinic  will bring state of the art facilities and a comprehensive care team to provide whole person, easy to navigate cancer care to the area. On behalf of all of us at the Allina Health Cancer Institute, I am deeply grateful to the community and the Allina Health team that is bringing this vision to life.”
