Inpatient care team

Below you will find descriptions of the various members of our multidisciplinary team you might encounter during your hospitalization. All members of the team work together to make your stay here as comfortable as possible, as you work towards wellness and healing.

I am a doctor trained to treat psychiatric illness with medications, as well as other therapies. During your hospital stay you can expect the following from me:

  • I will meet with you three times a week or more frequently, as needed based on your clinical needs.
  • I will help to treat symptoms of depression, anxiety and psychosis as well as other psychiatric illness
  • I will typically see you Monday through Friday. There is a psychiatrist available on the weekends for emergencies

I will meet with you within 24 hours of your admission to make sure that you are well from a medical standpoint. You can also expect the following from me:

  • I will manage symptoms of diabetes, asthma or other chronic medical conditions during your hospitalization.
  • I may not see you every day, but will check in as needed over the course of your hospitalization after your first visit, depending on ongoing needs

It is my role to provide care and ensure safety while you are on the unit. You will have an RN assigned to your care every shift every day. During your stay you can expect me to:

  • Provide admission information and orientation about the unit and programming when you arrive
  • Administer medications and monitor for side effects, as ordered by your internal medicine doctor or psychiatrist
  • Assist with monitoring and assessing your vital signs, pain, comfort, nutrition, sleep, and overall physical health
  • Assess and observe your mood, thought process, mental health status, behavior and compliance with unit programming
  • Meet with you individually to discuss your thoughts/feelings and assist with developing coping skills and provide education
  • Assist with discharge planning and completion of your crisis plan, and provide discharge education and instructions

I assist the registered nurse (RN) in providing care for you while you are here. I may not be here each shift but when I am here I might perform the following tasks:

  • Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADL's) such as showering, dressing, eating, etc.
  • Assist with medication and treatment as directed by the doctor
  • Assist with monitoring blood sugars
  • Review your work in workbooks and assist you with completing your crisis plans
  • Help you with your laundry, changing your linens, or assist you in getting any of your belongings
  • Meet with you individually to discuss your thoughts/feelings and assist with developing coping skills

I assist in providing care and ensuring safety while you are here. You might see me help with some of the following tasks:

  • Facilitate some groups
  • Assist you with completing any paperwork you might have including questionnaires, crisis plans, etc.
  • Meet with you individually to discuss your thoughts/feelings and assist with developing coping skills
  • Monitor your bathroom or shower
  • Help with your laundry, changing your linens, or assist with accessing any of your belongings

I assist in providing care for you while you are here and ensuring your safety. When I am on your unit you can expect me to:

  • Help in getting your vital signs each shift
  • Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADL's) such as showering, dressing, eating, etc.
  • Monitor your bathroom as needed
  • Assist with monitoring blood sugars if necessary
  • Assist you with completing your crisis plans
  • Help you with your laundry, changing your linens, or assist you in getting any of your belongings
  • Meet with you individually to discuss your thoughts/feelings and assist with developing coping skills

I have primary responsibility for the group programming while you are here. During the week I am on the unit throughout the day and evening to assist in you in achieving treatment goals. I will also do some of the following activities:

  • Meet with you within the first 72 hours of admission to complete an assessment of your coping skills, support system, etc.
  • Facilitate the majority of therapeutic groups
  • Meet with you individually to discuss your thoughts/feelings and assist with developing coping skills.

I will be assigned to work with you shortly after admission, and will work with you throughout your stay. If you are admitted during the week you can expect to meet with me within 24 hours. If you are admitted on the weekend I will meet with you on Monday. During your stay here I will:

  • Meet with you to complete an assessment which will be used in treatment and discharge planning
  • Coordinate with the doctor to assist in getting you the right services up discharge
  • Communicate with and between you, staff, your family and your community providers
  • Work with your insurance companies to complete pre-certification and ongoing authorization for the hospitalization

You will find me working mostly with adolescent patients, although I can assist with adult patients when requested. If you are an adolescent you will be assigned a family therapist shortly after admission. If you are admitted during the week I will meet with you briefly to introduce myself and call your family within 24 hours. If you are admitted on a weekend this will all happen Monday morning. You can expect me do the following while you are here:

  • Schedule an initial family meeting with your family shortly after admission
  • Facilitate ongoing sessions as needed based on how long you are on the unit
  • Work with the psychiatrist and team in developing treatment goals and outpatient plans

It's my job to assist with keeping the nurses station running smoothly. I may be the first person you see when you enter the unit since my desk in right at the front of the unit. During your stay you will find me doing some of the following things:

  • Greeting patients, visitors, and staff when arriving to the unit
  • Answering the phone and taking messages for you if you are unable to take the call
  • Assisting with opening the doors when people are coming and going from the unit
  • Assisting with flow of the unit and staff in an effort to keep the environment calm and therapeutic

I help to keep your room and the unit clean. Each day I assist with straightening up the lounge area, vacuuming, wiping the kitchen counters and cleaning the kitchen floor. You can also expect me to do the following in your room each day:

  • Wipe down high touch surfaces
  • Clean bathroom
  • Straighten up room
  • Sweep and mop floor

Outpatient care team

  • I will help to treat symptoms of depression, anxiety and psychosis as well as other psychiatric illness

  • Administer medications and monitor for side effects, as ordered by your internal medicine doctor or psychiatrist

  • Assess and observe your mood, thought process, mental health status, and behavior 
  • Meet with you individually as requested to discuss your thoughts/feelings and assist with developing coping skills and provide education
