Kirby Puckett Eye Mobile

eyemobilelogoThe Kirby Puckett Eye Mobile is the first and only mobile eye clinic in the region. With two fully-equipped exam rooms on board, it's like an eye doctor's office on wheels. It is owned, operated and staffed by Phillips Eye Institute - a campus of Abbott Northwestern Hospital, part of Allina Health.

Poor vision affects quality of life for people of all ages. Cost, lack of transportation or other challenges may limit access to vision care for some. By providing free vision screenings and comprehensive eye exams to those in need, the Kirby Puckett Eye Mobile can help improve the lives of many.

Named after Kirby Puckett

Kirby Puckett played center field for the Minnesota Twins for 12 years before his career was cut short by glaucoma. Before his death in 2006, Puckett was an advocate for preventive eye care and eye health awareness.

The Kirby Puckett Eye Mobile is an extension of the Phillips Eye Institute's Kirby Puckett Education Center, which was established by Kirby Puckett's family in 2008 to provide the community with resources to improve eye health and eliminate preventable blindness through education and early detection.

Donate

The Kirby Puckett Eye Mobile would not be possible without donor support. Here's how your donation can help:

  • $10 will screen one adult or child
  • $250 will screen one adult or child, provide a vision exam and glasses
  • $1,000 will screen up to 175 people
  • $5,000 will screen up to 500 people and provide comprehensive eye exams for 30 people

Your gift will help guarantee that people of all ages throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin will have one of the most basic tools to learn and engage in life.

Services

Invite us to your community

The Kirby Puckett Eye Mobile loves to travel! When we come to your community event or school, the following services may be provided:

  • free vision screenings for children and/or adults
  • eye health information
  • referrals as needed to local eye care resources

We are currently raising funds to allow us to also provide eye exams for those in need. Call 612-775-8968 for more information or to invite us to your community.

How we screen your vision

Our trained screening staff uses hand-held devices called photo screeners. This is the latest vision screening technology available. The photo screeners can identify people who need further testing and care. Vision screening does not replace a comprehensive eye exam by an eye care professional.
