Important updates about Humana Medicare Advantage
Allina Health will be out of network with Humana Medicare Advantage in 2025

Effective January 1, 2025, Allina Health will be out of network with Humana Medicare Advantage. For patients with Humana Medicare Advantage plans, this means Humana will no longer cover your care at Allina Health at in-network rates in 2025. This does not apply to Humana’s pharmacy plans or members of group retiree plans.

It’s important to take action to ensure you can keep your appointments and continue receiving care from the providers you know and trust at Allina Health.

What to know

  • Allina Health remains in network with your Humana Medicare Advantage plan for the remainder of 2024. You should keep all currently scheduled appointments, tests and procedures through December 31, 2024.
  • Allina Health will not schedule appointments with patients who have Humana Medicare Advantage plans in 2025. Patients with appointments scheduled in 2025 can expect to receive a phone call from a member of the Allina Health team to discuss this change. In the meantime, we encourage you to review the options below and take action in advance.
  • We will continue to care for Humana Medicare Advantage patients in our emergency departments. In a true emergency, you may go to any hospital, regardless of whether they are in your plan’s network or not, and your care will always be covered.

You can learn more by calling 1.866.316.0274 Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Central Time.

Options for patients

If you want to continue to receive care from the Allina providers you know and trust, you will need to switch to another Medicare Advantage plan.

The open enrollment period for Medicare Advantage Plans ended December 7, 2024.

There is an additional enrollment period that occurs January 1 to March 31, 2025. You will have the opportunity to make one switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan during that time. If you make an enrollment change during that time, your coverage will go into effect on the first of the following month. For example, if you make a change January 1, 2025 your coverage will begin February 1, 2025. During that gap time, you will not have access to Allina Health providers or services.

We recommend you take action to protect your access to care at Allina Health.

You can visit www.medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) for more information on other plans. You can also reach out to a local health insurance broker for help making changes to your Medicare plan. You may also call Minnesota’s Senior LinkAge Line at 1-800-333-2433.

Please note that Allina Health will show as in network with Humana Medicare Advantage through the end of 2024, but that will not be the case after January 1, 2025.

Ongoing treatment & continuity of care coverage

Some patients with ongoing treatment may be eligible to qualify for Continuity of Care benefits from Humana. This benefit would allow these patients to continue receiving care at an in-network rate for a period of time after the contract ends, usually around 90 days. If eligible, Humana may continue covering the cost of care through March 31, 2025.

For more information, please contact Humana at the number on the back of your insurance card to request a Continuity of Care application. Only Humana can determine if you qualify for these benefits.

No. Allina Health will continue to accept Humana pharmacy plans. We will call you if you have Humana Medicare Advantage and a Humana pharmacy plan.
If you are a member of a Humana group retiree plan, this change does not apply to you. We will provide additional information to you soon via a letter and/or email.
Your hospice benefit is covered by Medicare Part A and you are able to continue service with Allina Hospice. Your hospice care will continue to be covered. Please call the Hospice intake line at 651-635-9173 for any additional questions.
We understand that this has caused frustration. We have been working with Humana for some time, and we had hoped we could come to an agreement. However, we were unable to do so. We are making every effort to notify patients of the steps you can take to prevent a lapse in care and continue to see your Allina Health provider in the new year.
