HeartScan Minnesota®

Coronary Artery Disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women.

For many people, the first sign of heart disease is a heart attack. And, heart attacks can occur when there is as little as 30 to 50 percent narrowing of the arteries. Unlike standard stress tests that can't detect calcium deposits until the narrowing is at least 50 percent, HeartScan Minnesota gives you an inside view of your heart's health - giving you a personalized calcium score.

At a cost of $100, a heart scan from HeartScan Minnesota is a simple, inexpensive way to get an inside view of your heart's health.

Who should have a heart scan?

Anyone older than 35, with one or more of these risk factors for heart disease is encouraged to call for an appointment.

  • Family history
  • High cholesterol
  • Smoking
  • High blood pressure
  • Diabetes
You will first fill out a health questionnaire.
For the test itself, you will lie down on the scanner bed and be asked to hold your breath while the scanner takes two images of your heart. Each scan takes 10 to 45 seconds.

Every scan will be analyzed and read by a cardiovascular imaging specialist, so you will get the most in-depth and thorough interpretation. You will then receive a comprehensive report detailing the results of the scans through the mail.

With your permission, we will forward your report to your primary care physician. We strongly encourage you to review the report with your physician and develop a plan to ensure your heart's health.

The amount of radiation emitted by this CT scan is very low - about the same as a mammogram or a chest x-ray.

Billing and insurance

As of April 7, 2014, we no longer bill insurance to cover the cost of your heart scan.
The cost is $100 paid at the time of your appointment. You will receive a receipt at the time of your payment. Typically, this cost is reimbursable through a flexible health spending account or an HSA (Health Savings Account).
