Mental health assessments and referrals

We respond to patients who seek help for mental health or substance abuse crisis in emergency departments at affiliate hospitals equipped with TeleHealth technology. Licensed mental health clinicians complete a comprehensive risk assessment of the patient, including gathering collateral information and making a care recommendation to the emergency department treatment team.

Mental health assessment and referral clinical staff work closely with the emergency department physicians. Assessments are provided to patients on a referral basis only after the patient has been medically evaluated by the emergency department physician. Clinicians recommend the least restrictive level of care based on the clinical risk factors identified and may arrange inpatient admission or provide outpatient referrals as needed.

This service is available only for emergency department medical staff at affiliate sites to request for appropriate situations.
