Is this site accessible to those with physical impairments?

We are taking steps like these to make allinahealth.org accessible to people with physical impairments:

  • Type size and table widths can be adjusted according to the preferences you have set on your Web browser. (The Web Accessibility Initiative offers detailed instructions on how to change text styles or colors in standard browser settings at www.w3.org/WAI/changedesign.)
  • A "skip to main content" link at the top of the page helps linear screen reading devices skip over the standard navigation and go straight to the information unique to that page.
  • Most images have "alt" tags that describe what the image looks like or what content it has. Images used for layout spacing use an empty string in the alt tag.
  • New browser windows are used sparingly. If a new window is used, the user is informed with an alert message, link title attributes, or text on the page.
  • Links to PDF (portable document format) documents are identified as PDFs which require Adobe Reader® to view.
