Managing your stress and anxiety

The coronavirus (COVID-19) is causing stress and anxiety for many. However, there are things you can do to help care for yourself during this time.

  • Maintain good health habits. Eat healthful foods and avoid caffeine, alcohol and nicotine. A healthy body tolerates stress and anxiety more effectively.
  • Be physically active. Physical activities often relieve the body of unnecessary tensions. Start with a short walk or stretching.
  • Get plenty of rest. Your body and mind need to “re-energize” each night.
  • Limit the amount of news you watch, read and listen.
  • Take a break. Sit back and take a few deep breaths. Do some relaxation exercises.
  • Do something that makes you happy. It is important to take time for you every day.
  • Spend time outside. Notice the simple things such as the clouds or scenery.
  • If you notice your mind racing or worrying, take a minute to breathe deeply. Gently focus on something in the moment such as your breathing or scenery.
