Joel, a native Minnesotan, completed his undergraduate studies at Bethel University (St. Paul, MN) and earned a Master of Divinity from Bethel Seminary (St. Paul), with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy. He is a Spiritual Care and Pastoral Education Manager for Allina Health.

Joel has served as a chaplain and leader in a variety of settings, including pediatric hospice/palliative care, trauma one, long-term care, community hospital, and medical centers. Joel is an ACPE Certified Educator Candidate (CEC). He is ordained in the Covenant Church and completed a Ph.D. in Pastoral Care and Counseling from Luther Seminary (St. Paul).

Professional Interests: practical theology, spirituality, grief, leadership and clinical ethics.

Personal interests: family, outdoors, running, cycling.

Reverend Tania Hammer-Luken

Tania Hammer-Luken returned to Allina Health as Director of Spiritual Care, Pastoral Education & Clinical Ethics in April 2020. She served as CPE Lead at North Memorial Health System, Robbinsdale and previously at Sanford Health, Fargo, where she accredited their Level I, II and Certified Educator training programs. She was a System Director for Spiritual Care and CPE at HealthEast Care System. Tania’s expertise includes serving as Director and adjunct faculty for the Denver Seminary CPE Center while training four CEC’s. She later became the CPE Administrator for Good Samaritan Society’s Specialty Care Center. She worked as Candidate Educator and Educator for the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, St. Louis, MO for seven years.

After graduating from Concordia College (Moorhead, MN), Rev. Hammer-Luken received a Master of Divinity degree from Luther Northwestern Theological Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. She completed a unit of CPE at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, a CPE residency at Fairview Southdale Hospital, and CPE Supervisory education at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN & Barnes Jewish Hospital, a partner with the VA in St. Louis, Missouri.

Ordained by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America thirty years ago, she is an ACPE Certified Educator, a member of the ACPE National Faculty and a training educator for five Certified Educator Candidates. She has 27 years of clinical ministry experience and six years of parish ministry experience.

Professional interests: spiritual life and leadership, outcome-oriented chaplaincy, value-based improvement in healthcare and the integration of faith and life.

Personal interests: reading, time with husband Virg and two fur babies
