Allina Health started a new environmental sustainability program in 2020. This internship would assist with developing the sustainability program, reporting on sustainability metrics, and communicating about the initiatives.

The intern would work directly with the new Sustainability Specialist. The position is part of the Facilities and Real Estate Administration department. The focus is system-wide and works with 12 hospitals and 100+ clinics. An additional focus is Abbott Northwestern Hospital because of the size, complexity and upcoming construction projects.

Location: Internship is remote, with the possibility of occasional on-site visits.

The Allina Health Cancer Institute Quality and Accreditation team has some major initiatives, including a new accreditation for Radiation Oncology, new certification called Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI), and other quality initiatives.  There are many details to sort through as we do gap analyses related to the standards and measurements.  I would anticipate the intern supporting this work.

The Allina Health Cancer Institute’s Quality and Accreditation team consists of a Director, an Accreditation Manager, and 2 safety & quality advisors.  The Accreditation Manager has an Accreditation Specialist & several cancer registry staff reporting to her.  We are a small group, work well together, and meet as a team regularly.  We work closely with a larger group of leaders, physicians, and healthcare team members within the cancer institute to advance our quality initiatives.  

Location: We will plan that this work will be done remotely, with frequent contact via Teams and Emails; however, may have some opportunity to do in-person.

As an Internal Audit Intern for Allina Health, you will have the opportunity to assist on a variety of risk-based internal audit projects and perform various audit procedures. You will have the ability to work with a variety of levels within Audit Services and other business areas. In addition, you will be partnered with a mentor to guide your internship and your career.

  • Learn audit process from risk assessment to audit planning, audit performance, reporting and follow-up

Intern will be a member of Consumer Experience Strategy team working on projects that support continuous improvement of a differentiated end-to-end consumer experience system-wide & use consumer insights, mainly from patient experience surveys, to understand opportunities and strengths.   The focus on consumer experience spans all channels including digital, in-person, and phone interactions.

The intern will support security initiatives including process improvement and risk evaluation. The intern will have the opportunity to work on piloting and implementing technological security solutions. The intern will assess internal and external information to help assess risk to the organization and learn holistic risk mitigation strategies.

The Corporate Security team is comprised of over 250 security professionals dedicated to providing a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors and employees. The intern may work with other teams who focus on security-related functions, including System Operations and IS.

Location: This will likely be a remote opportunity with regular check-ins via Teams. It may include some in-person construction-related meetings where project information can be shared and obtained. As member of the Public Affairs team, the Regulatory Affairs Intern will play a role in supporting the public policy lifecycle. This internship will include tracking and analyzing federal regulatory public policy issues, preparing materials for internal stakeholder meetings, database management, note-taking skills, communication of regulatory updates across the health system, and other tasks/duties as needed and assigned.  

By the end of the internship, the intern will have: gained an understanding of the regulatory affairs function within a large health system; experienced and performed regulatory policy analysis using enterprise risk-management principles; developed a greater depth of knowledge of the public policy lifecycle; and will have the opportunity for exposure/shadowing of other department(s).  

The regulatory affairs intern will join a small team of 2 (Manager and Analyst) and will be part of a department of 20 employees, including communications, public relations and government relations. This comprises “Public Affairs” at Allina Health. The intern will primarily interact with the Regulatory Affairs Manager and Regulatory Affairs Analyst.  Strong communication, clear expectations, and asking questions are a few characteristics of our team that have helped us be successful.

Location: Remote or hybrid, depending on policies for return to work at the Commons.

We are a relatively new (created in 2020) Revenue Cycle department that interacts with many operational departments throughout Allina.  We monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and connect with other Revenue Cycle areas and Allina-wide operational departments to insure that Allina’s revenue stream is as healthy and strong as possible.

We are a team of 9.  Very high engagement (EE Engagement score of 98), and a team that has a lot of fun.  This role will require them to collaborate with every member of the team, and each member will provide them with their insight from both their Revenue Cycle experience, and the wide-range of experiences outside of Revenue Cycle.  This role will have high visibility throughout the organization as we meet with many senior leaders throughout the system.

Strategy, Business Development and Innovation (SBD&I) partners with leaders across Allina Health to identify and drive strategic growth and business development opportunities.  SBD&I provides thought leadership, innovative solutions and process management.  We do this through aligning stakeholders, leading through ambiguity and providing market insights to maximize Allina’s relevancy into the future. 

SBD&I is a small and mighty department of strategists, innovators and business development leaders.  We partner with key stakeholders across the organization, which often includes senior executive leadership.  Additional frequent department partners include health care providers, operations, marketing, data analytics, legal, compliance, human resources and finance.

Our summer intern will participate in w wide variety of projects – this may include projects related to strategic planning, research on the market and competitive landscape, development of strategy reports, and business unit growth implementation activities.

As part of their internship, we have various remote work that they will be assigned among the following areas (see below) including their exposure to various supply chain governance committee meetings and other committees that supply chain works closely with (e.g. Population Health; Finance; Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; Sustainability).   It would be our intent to get these interns out visiting major suppliers in our marketplace (e.g. Medtronic) as part of their exposure to their supply chains.

We have a wide variety of research and compliance projects for the intern to assist with for different tax types, each of which will include support and training.

Close knit team of seven tax professionals. We communicate throughout the day in this remote environment and laugh a lot. 

This would be an opportunity to see a broad overview of what Allina does on a financial level. Because we handle payroll taxes, sales tax, property tax, minnesotacare taxes, and nonprofit reporting, we are one of the only teams that tracks the whole system for employees, supply chain, patient revenue, real estate and governance. We will take the time to meet with the intern and share the high level background and purpose of each of these tax types and how they fit into Allina's structure.

Intern would learn about the importance of benefits in creating an employee experience, attraction and retention of employees and building culture. They would get exposure to lots of different kinds of benefits and a unique benefits experience within healthcare being a provider of many benefits.
