Meet Lung Imaging For Early-detection: Fast, easy, convenient screening for LIFE.
Because early detection saves lives, Allina Health Cancer Institute is first in the state of Minnesota to bring high-tech lung cancer screening to a neighborhood near you. Exceptional healthcare, right where you need it most.
Allina Health is first in the state of Minnesota to offer mobile lung screenings — a fast, easy, convenient way to detect lung cancer early.
Even though fewer people smoke than before, lung cancer is still the leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States — and eight of 10 cancer cases are caused by smoking. Detecting it early, when it is most treatable, is crucial.
It can be scary to think about being screened for lung cancer if you have a smoking history. Smoking is a powerful addiction, and often, people who smoke or have smoked feel guilty for smoking or wish they never started.
Never underestimate the power of peace of mind, knowing you have done your part to be proactive about your health.
If you are between the ages of 50 and 80 (Medicare 50 – 77) and are a current cigarette smoker, or have quit smoking within the last 15 years, you may qualify for a yearly lung screening CT scan to monitor for lung cancer development. Sometimes, you may need to do a scan more often if we need to follow your findings more closely. We’ve made it easier for you to complete your five-minute low-dose CT scan, no matter where you’re located.
We pioneer care that helps you stay healthy. Get early screening from us in a convenient way, on your schedule and in your neighborhood.
Show up to your 15-minute appointment, lie down in the CT scanner for five minutes, and then go on your way. Our CT scans use low-dose radiation to get a clear picture of your lungs. A board-certified radiologist will read your scan and send the results to your Allina Health account, or you will receive a letter in the mail. Your result will also be sent to your primary care provider.
Lung screening CT scans may also report findings that are unrelated to lung cancer. If you have questions regarding these findings, please contact your primary care provider.
Our LIFE scan is backed by Allina Health Cancer Institute experts
LIFE is run by Allina Health Cancer Institute experts with the same qualifications and technological innovations that are available in clinics and hospitals.
Results could include: no lung nodules (negative), lung nodules detected, or other abnormalities in your lungs.
If you need follow-up care, we can connect you with the right provider for your specific needs.
If you qualify, preventive screening is covered by most insurance plans. Check with your insurance plan to determine coverage. Our care team can help you get information you may need to discuss with your insurer by calling 612-775-LUNG (5864).

No. At this time, the current screening criteria is for cigarette use. But if you previously smoked cigarettes, and now vape, please call our team, as you may be eligible.
Annual lung screenings are recommended for those who meet the eligibility requirements. If more monitoring is needed, then sometimes more frequent screenings are recommended.
A lung CT scan is a donut-shaped machine where you lie flat inside the hole. The machine takes a series of images using low-dose radiation, then combines the images to give a clear, comprehensive view of your lungs.
Yes! We use the exact same advanced technology in the truck as in our clinics, and our technologists have the same training as our clinic providers.
Insurance usually requires discussing lung screening with your doctor prior to your first scan. Call us at 612-775-LUNG (5864) to see if you qualify and how to get set up for an appointment.
If you are not currently a patient at Allina Health, you can ask your doctor to fax an order for a Chest CT Scan-Screening to 612-262-9313.
If you have questions on eligibility, locations, or making appointments, call the lung screen number for help: 612-775-LUNG (5864).
Most insurance companies cover the cost of your screening if you meet the eligibility requirements. Generally, this covers if you are between the ages of 50 and 80 (Medicare 50 – 77) and are a current cigarette smoker, or have quit smoking within the last 15 years.
No preparation is necessary. Avoid wearing jewelry or clothing with metal (zippers, snaps, buttons, clasps). If your clothing contains too much metal, you may be asked to change into a gown.
You stay dressed in your regular clothes.
For the scan, you will be asked to lie still on a table that moves slowly through a donut-shaped CT scanner. The scan itself takes about five minutes and uses just a low dose of radiation to create the images of your lungs. Then we’ll send results to your Allina Health account.
The appointment lasts about 15 minutes, but the scan itself is fast and only takes about five minutes.
You can view your results on your Allina Health account. If you need more care, a member of our care team or your primary care provider may contact you.
