With a price tag of $13.5 million, the new Emergency Department boasts 16 beds and 20,000 square feet to handle the average 15,000 ED patients treated at District One each year.

[PatientEngagementHIT, July 07, 2017]   Allina Health has officially launched OpenNotes, allowing its nearly 500,000 patients access to health data and clinician notes. The health system serves individuals in Minnesota and Wisconsin and is the first in the area to adopt the OpenNotes philosophy, which calls for providers to make clinician notes freely accessible for patients.

[Healthcare IT News, June 30, 2017]   Allina Health announced this week that approximately half a million patients in the Minneapolis region can now read the notes physicians write about them. Allina said that its patients can now log into a portal to view not just those notes but also doctor’s instructions and next steps as well as prescriptions and orders.

Even so, the decision on the part of senior leaders at the 13-hospital, 90-clinic, 26,000-employee Allina to commit to achieving exceptional outcomes—senior executives strove to be in the top decile of performance on every meaningful, measurable quality metric—was ambitious enough to give the project a semifinalist award in this year’s Healthcare Informatics Innovator Awards program.

[Minnesota Public Radio, March 01, 2016]   Allina Health is placing restrictions on visitors to its hospitals, after state health officials declared influenza widespread in Minnesota. Beginning Wednesday, children under age 5 and sick people will not be allowed to visit hospitalized patients.
