[Business Journal, May 30, 2013]   A Twin Cities startup that has developed a high-tech shoe insert called the Walkasins® has landed a $1 million federal grant that it will use to conduct clinical trials. Lars Oddsson, director of the Sister Kenny Research Center, developed the technology behind the Walkasins®, which can detect whether a person is about to lose his or her balance and fall.

[Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, January 07, 2013]   Edina Family Physicians (EFP) and Allina Health have signed a professional services agreement that will allow the health providers to work together more closely. Edina Family Physicians and Allina Health have worked together for several years, and the relationship has been particularly strong between Abbott Northwestern's cardiology group and the practice, said Dr. Bob Wieland , executive vice president of Allina Health's clinic and community division.

[KARE 11, December 14, 2012]   Two of the Twin Cities' best-known advocates for the disability community plan to merge, a move aimed at pooling their respective strengths and streamlining operations. Allina Health's Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute and Courage Center say that coming together will blend the medical expertise of Sister Kenny with the community programs and outreach of Courage Center.

[Twin Cities Business, April 19, 2011]   Allina Hospitals & Clinics has started work on a project that has been on its radar for about 10 years—a consolidated central medical laboratory. Construction began in March on the new $29 million lab for Allina Medical Laboratories , which will house 400 employees who are currently spread out among 12 labs located in five different buildings on the Abbott Northwestern Hospital campus.

[Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, April 11, 2011]   Allina Hospitals & Clinics will break ground in Brooklyn Park on Wednesday for the J.A. Wedum Residential Hospice , a 12-bed facility that the medical clinic says will help alleviate a shortage of hospice beds in the Twin Cities. The $5 million hospice will be located next to the Allina Medical Clinic .

[Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, January 31, 2011]   The Minneapolis Heart Institute at Abbott Northwestern Hospital and the Mayo Clinic have started using a newly approved Medtronic procedure that freezes a portion of the heart to treat a heart rhythm disorder. The new surgical method, which had not been done before in Minnesota, freezes the inside of an upper cavity in the heart to create lesions that stop erratic electrical signals.

[Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, December 01, 2010]   Allianz Life CEO Gary Bhojwani has been elected to serve on Allina Hospitals & Clinics' 17-member board of directors, Allina said Wednesday. Bhojwani has served as president and chief executive of Golden Valley-based Allianz Life Insurance Co. of North America since 2007.
