Study shows seniors are having sex

[KARE 11, May 08, 2018] According to a new University of Michigan poll, 40 percent of people between the ages of 65 and 80 say they’re sexually active, while more than half say sex is important to their quality of life.

Dr. Emily Downing, a geriatrician at Allina Health, says an active sex life has benefits.

“Sex is really important, one, for your physical health. Good exercise. We know that having sex releases chemicals that help you to feel joy and experience joy. We all want our seniors to be happy,” Downing said. “It makes us all a little uncomfortable to think about our seniors having sex but as you age, you get wise in a lot of things and sex is one of those things as well."

Dr. Downing also discussed the same topic on the KARE 11 News at 11 as well. Watch it here.
