Allina Health makes major food changes

[KARE11-TV, December 02, 2015] Allina Health announced major shifts to offer healthier food in its hospital cafeterias, vending machines and cafes.

The most major change will be the closure of the 24 hour McDonald's fast food restaurant inside the Abbott Northwestern Hospital. Allina will end the relationship with the fast food chain in the end of May of 2016 to better align with the organization's mission to encourage healthy choices and reduce disease.

The health care system will also remove all deep fried foods from its cafeterias and cafes, eliminate all sugar sweetened drinks and offer healthier choices in vending machines.

The Star Tribune, Pioneer Press, WCCO-TV, Minnesota Public Radio and Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal also reported on this story.
