Recent study questions the accuracy of breast biopsies

[KARE-TV, March 28, 2015] Each year 1.6 million women have breast biopsies. For one in ten, the results are unclear - leading many of the women to have unnecessary breast cancer surgery or treatments.

Long known as the gold standard for diagnosing breast cancer, a recent study questions the accuracy of breast biopsies and could mean big changes for the cancer field moving forward.

Dr. Tammy Lillemoe from the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute at Abbott Northwestern shared what the study's findings mean and what is being done at Abbott to prevent these uncertain results.
