First in Midwest to get world’s tiniest pacemaker at Abbott Northwestern Hospital

That’s how Kathleen Buckholtz described the good fortune that led to the implantation of her new nickel-sized pacemaker. She wasn’t talking about the steady beat, beat, beat that keeps her blood flowing freely through her veins but, if you asked her, she’d certainly say, “That too.”

Buckholtz’s surgery on May 1 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, part of Allina Health, in Minneapolis was all that and more – good timing, heart-pounding, ground-breaking and life-saving.
