[KSTP TV, January 28, 2014] An estimated one out of eight couples have issues when trying to start a family. One Minnesota couple chose a unique way to bring life into the world. Two and a half years ago, Tiffany Huang delivered Caitlyn Joy into the world. Here's the unique part -- nine months earlier she and her husband Simon adopted her.
After years of trying to conceive, the Huangs considered regular adoption, but then chose to adopt an embryo; a frozen embryo a family in California donated after going through in-vitro fertilization. "The adoption versus donation becomes a question of when you consider the embryo has personhood," Dr. John Malo, Fertility Endocrinologist at the Center for Reproductive Medicine, said. Dr. John Malo is a reproductive endocrinologist at the biggest IVF center in the Twin Cities. He says it's a safe procedure and the success depends on the health of the embryo.
