Influenza strains target younger Minnesotans

[KARE, January 07, 2014] The flu season in Minnesota is expected to get worse as students return from winter break this week. Minnesota Department of Health officials said there were 111 new hospitalizations in the state last week. So far this week, there are 96 and counting.

In the emergency department at Allina West Health in Plymouth, the flu, with its high fever and body aches, is on the rise.

Emergency department Dr. John Svenningsen says, "Influenza is one of the larger things that are peaking now. We're seeing a lot of cases of that."
