[ABC Newspapers, April 12, 2012] Lions and Lioness clubs and Allina have provided screenings in health classes at Anoka and Coon Rapids high schools. The screenings not only made health lessons personal to students, they also served as a way to identify health issues requiring attention. This turned out to be the case for an Anoka High School sophomore who went through the screening in November. Mercy & Unity Hospitals’ Wellness Program staff were concerned about the student’s high blood pressure. In a follow-up visit to a physician, the student and his parents learned he has a serious heart condition. Now, Allina and Mercy & Unity Hospitals are funding health screenings for all students in the Anoka-Hennepin School District high schools.
