Allina Lifesaver Award to Farmington emergency responders for June 24 save

[ThisWeek, September 22, 2011] It was June 24, just before 5 a.m., and Jim Glynn's strange gurgling noises stirred his wife from her slumber. She shook him, but he didn’t respond. Their son, Doug, visiting from Arizona, ran into the room, grabbed a phone and dialed 9-1-1.

Allina Medical Transportation 9-1-1 dispatcher Jenny VanPutten determined Jim had suffered sudden cardiac arrest, told them to put Jim on the floor and instructed Doug in performing CPR on his father. Within minutes, Farmington Sgt. Gary Rutherford and Officer Andy Bellows arrived, continued CPR and used an automated external defibrillator to restart Jim’s heart.
