[KMSP Fox 9 News, September 27, 2011] An Edina police report from July details an encounter with Interstate 394 shooting victim Katherine Gordon, who said “the spirit of the devil” told her to come to police and ask to be locked up. Gordon was shot and killed by a police officer on I-394 last Thursday afternoon.
The report, dated July 26, says Gordon was taken by request from the Edina Police Department to Fairview Southdale Hospital. She initially came to police seeking to be locked up because she believed she was a threat to herself and others.
"I think it's a very unfortunate situation for everybody involved," said Dr. Mark Zipper, a psychologist with Allina Hospitals & Clinics. Though Zipper was not involved in the Gordon case, he often deals with similar situations and said he believes a thorough analysis likely concluded Gordon was ill but not dangerous.
