Allina allergist on surviving bad spring allergies

[KMSP Fox 9 News, May 03, 2011] Many Minnesotans are waking up this week with congested heads and itchy eyes. The effects of a recent pollen blast struck Tuesday, and one local allergist said this season may be one of the worst for residents with seasonal allergies.

About one in four people suffers from allergies, and many are already saying they can’t remember a season as hard-hitting as this one.

“When patients have allergies, they have inflammation in their nose, sinus and respiratory track,” explained Dr. Pramod Kelkar, an allergist with Allina Medical Clinic. “If the air quality is poor—like environmental pollution—basically, it triggers inflammatory reaction in the respiratory track.” Watch the story below.
