New Alzheimer’s Diagnosis Guidelines Released

[Fox 9 News, April 19, 2011] It’s a disease that destroys the mind and is difficult for families to cope with, but for the first time in 27 years, there may be some new information surfacing about Alzheimer’s disease.

New guidelines have been released for diagnosing the disease, and doctors are saying that it can now be detected before symptoms begin to show.

Dr. Richard Golden, a neurologist with Abbott Northwestern, said the new guidelines will help physicians look for indicators that a person is likely to develop dementia using brain scans and fluid tests so that doctors can start treatment early.
