[United Press International, November 17, 2010]   Many patients at risk for heart disease were rarely on primary preventive medications when stricken with an acute heart attack, according to researchers at the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Kevin Graham , MD, lead investigator, presented their findings at the American Heart Association's scientific sessions in Chicago.

[Minnesota Public Radio, November 15, 2010]   Most first-time heart attack patients are not taking well-known medications that could have prevented their heart attacks, a study by a group of Twin Cities cardiologists found. The study, presented Monday during an American Heart Association meeting in Chicago, may mark the first time research has looked at the treatment patients received prior to their heart attack.

[Star Tribune, November 16, 2010]   Minnesota might become the first state in the nation to create a policy against a common practice in obstetrics: inducing childbirth early just for the convenience of doctors or mothers. Mindful of research showing health problems with babies delivered early, the state Department of Human Services has proposed that hospitals create plans by 2012 for reducing elective inductions prior to 39 weeks gestation.
