You have many options about where you and your family get your health care. At Allina Health we believe in empowering you to make the best match for yourself and your family when choosing a health care provider. That’s why we’ve chosen to be clear about how patients like you rate their experiences with our providers.

Ratings and comments from patients like you are shared on our website in Find Providers.

How it works:

  • We routinely survey patients who receive care from an Allina Health provider. Patients are randomly invited to complete a Clinician and Group Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CGCAHPS) survey offered by mail or email. The CGCAHPS survey is a standardized tool to measure patients' perception of care provided by physicians in a clinic and office setting. The survey gives our patients an opportunity to provide feedback about their experience with Allina Health.
  • Your responses are used to identify how we might improve care you receive from our providers, in our clinics. Our goal is to provide you with exceptional care. Survey responses are used to display an overall provider rating along with comments.
  • Star ratings for each provider are posted on our website. Ratings are averaged to form a single star rating up to five stars. Provider ratings are based on patient responses to six questions:
    1. During the visit, did this provider explain things in a way that was easy to understand?
    2. During the visit, did this provider listen carefully to you?
    3. During the visit, did this provider give you easy to understand information about these health questions or concerns?
    4. During the visit, did this provider seem to know the important information about your medical history?
    5. During the visit, did this provider show respect for what you had to say?
    6. During the visit, did this provider spend enough time with you?
  • Comments, both positive and negative, are posted on our website. We do not post comments that are profane, libelous, slanderous, irrelevant or otherwise inappropriate, or those that may risk the privacy of our patients.
  • We protect patient privacy by never displaying patient names as part of online ratings and reviews. All personally identifiable information is removed prior to display.

Not all providers on the Allina Health website will have a star rating or comments. We will display ratings for providers who have a minimum of 30 completed surveys within a 12-month period. In addition, some providers on the Allina Health website may not have ratings and reviews because they participate in a different survey than CGCAHPS, or they are not surveyed by Allina Health.
