Cambridge Medical Center partnership with Children’s Minnesota makes pediatric emergency doctors available virtually 24/7

CAMBRIDGE, Minn. 12/20/2017 — Cambridge Medical Center (CMC) and Children’s Minnesota are partnering to offer virtual pediatric emergency consultation services at CMC. This innovative service gives CMC’s emergency medicine doctors 24-hour access to Children’s pediatric emergency expertise

“Having access 24/7 to board-certified or board-eligible pediatric emergency medicine physician specialists is a tremendous asset to the patients and families of our community, said Luke Dandelet, DO, CMC ED Medical Director. “Having the support provided by Children’s Hospital will augment the patient care of pediatric patients at Cambridge Medical Center.

Through real-time, remote, face-to-face health care video interaction, the CMC Emergency Department team can connect with more than 40 pediatric emergency medicine doctors and numerous pediatric specialists located at Children’s Minnesota in St. Paul or Minneapolis.

CMC Emergency Department doctors will be able to securely share patient’s vital statistics, laboratory test and imaging results in real time with a pediatric emergency medicine doctor. By working together, the doctors may be able to quicken the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric patients. They will also determine if the patient should be transferred to a pediatric hospital for more specialized treatment.

"Virtual care for children means providing a direct connection to pediatric specialists who are typically concentrated in urban areas. This allows patients in rural communities to have comprehensive access to specialized health care that might otherwise require a far drive or not be available at all," said Judy Wenzel, manager, telehealth program at Children's Minnesota.

This type of health care partnership gives patients access to pediatric emergency expertise close to home, eliminates unnecessary travel and expense, and improves the pediatric patient experience.
