FRIDLEY, Minn. 4/26/2016 — Unity Hospital celebrates 50 years of providing innovative, state-of-the-art health care to the members of our community. The public is invited to a celebratory anniversary event on Tuesday, May 10 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Unity Hospital at 550 Osborne Road in Fridley. The event features kids’ activities, health screenings, interactive displays and refreshments.

Unity Hospital opened its doors on May 23, 1966, and was a true reflection of the “unity” in “community” for which it was named. Local residents from the region walked door to door, held public meetings, and sold bonds to build a community hospital that would serve the growing north suburban region. Since those early days, Unity has grown with the expanding area to become one of the premier community hospitals in the Twin Cities.

Unity Hospital offers leading-edge technology, equipment, procedures, modern facilities, highly skilled professionals and a sense of family and community. It has a nationally recognized bariatric surgery center, advanced cancer treatment through the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute®, a Joint Replacement Center, an emergency department staffed with board-certified emergency physicians and innovative care for the elderly in the Adult Care for the Elderly (ACE) unit. Unity Hospital also has a growing reputation for quality mental health and addiction medicine care and treatment.

In 2015, Unity Hospital merged obstetrics services with Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids in the new advanced care Mother Baby Center on the Coon Rapids campus. To recognize and honor all babies born at Unity prior to the merger, Unity will be holding a tree planting ceremony during the anniversary celebration at 5 p.m. Guests at the tree planting include some of the babies born during the hospital’s first 50 years.
