NEW ULM, Minn. 4/21/2016 — New Ulm Medical Center (NUMC) was recently named on two lists of top hospitals nationwide for patient experience and patient safety, according to Healthgrades, a U.S. company that tracks information about physicians, hospitals and healthcare providers.

This puts NUMC in the top 15 percent of hospitals nationwide with the 2016 Outstanding Patient Experience Award and in the top 10 percent of hospitals with the 2016 Patient Safety Excellence Award.

The Patient Safety Excellence Award recognizes hospitals that have the lowest occurrences of 14 preventable patient safety events.

The Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award recognizes hospitals that provide an overall outstanding patient experience. Healthgrades evaluates patient experience performance by scoring 10 patient experience measures, using data collected from the 32-question survey of the hospital’s own patients. The survey is required by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for all hospitals in the United States.

"Both of these awards speak to the tremendous dedication of the staff and providers at New Ulm Medical Center," said NUMC President Toby Freier. "It's gratifying to see the procedures we've put into place pay off, resulting in NUMC continuing its role as a regional leader in patient safety and patient experience."

This is the third year in a row that NUMC has been recognized with Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award. NUMC was also recognized with the Outstanding Patient Experience Award in 2014.
