Plus One artwork

A culture of philanthropy has long been woven into the fabric of the Abbott Northwestern Hospital Medical Staff. Each year, care providers make charitable gifts to the Abbott Northwestern Hospital Foundation in support of the patients and communities they serve by supporting a wide variety of initiatives, including:

  • patient care programs such as the Givens Brain Tumor Center, Phillips Eye Institute, the Piper Breast Center, the Neuroscience Institute, and Cardiovascular Services
  • medical education and research
  • prescription assistance for patients in financial distress
  • nonprofit organizations serving communities surrounding Abbott Northwestern

Extending care beyond the exam room

  • Since 2006 alone, the Abbott Northwestern Medical Staff, through donations made by individuals and physician groups, has generously donated more than $9.8 million in support of patients through the Abbott Northwestern Hospital Foundation.
  • The Abbott Northwestern Hospitalists created the Neighborhood Revitalization Fund and raised $106,000 in the summer of 2020 to support neighborhood recovery. These funds helped the Lake Street Council and the Neighborhood Development Center assist families and business owners rebuild following the death of George Floyd and civil unrest in the community.
  • Youth in the surrounding Phillips and Powderhorn neighborhoods have enjoyed participation in sports and other healthy recreational programs through the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board with great thanks to the Medical Staff’s longstanding support – more than $525,000 has been donated by the Medical Staff since 1992 to support these initiatives.
  • More than 120 high school students from neighboring South High School and Roosevelt High School have received help with paying for college thanks to scholarships awarded by the Abbott Northwestern Medical Staff.
