Education

Nursing education programs and services are offered through United's Education Services Department. Education Services supports the mission, vision and strategic goals of Allina Health and United Hospital through collaboration with leadership and staff. We identify learning needs by focusing on care and service, mandated and regulatory requirements and hospital- and corporate-wide initiatives.

The Education Services Department reports to Julie Sabo, director of education, practice and community, and Susan Rainey, manager. The department is organized centrally, providing service for all of United.

We work closely with Care Center leadership to meet the education needs of our nursing staff, who are an essential component of the excellent care provided at United Hospital. This commitment to nursing is demonstrated through:

  • Provide a specialized orientation program for new grads and summer interns
  • Support nursing competency, focusing on required competencies and ongoing staff education
  • Enhance the skill, knowledge and confidence of the nursing team by providing workshops, seminars and courses such as Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced ECG, Basic Life Support, Essentials of Critical Care Orientation

Professional development

  • Strengthen nursing leadership through the development of key nursing roles: Professional Nursing Preceptor Workshop and the Charge Nurse Workshop
  • Advance the expertise of nursing through specialty certifications - Many of our nurses and nursing leaders are certified or pursuing certification in specialty nursing fields that help them provide high-quality care
