Employee volunteers

  • Employee volunteers reap double rewards

River Falls Area Hospital employees are passionate about helping people while on the job - and many enjoy giving back during their free time as well.

Allina Health supports these employees with its Dollars for Doers program. For every 20 hours of volunteer time an employee logs, Allina Health donates $100 to the nonprofit of his or her choice.

Heather Logelin, the hospital's foundation and community engagement director, said Dollars for Doers is in keeping with the Allina Health history of working with community partners to improve the health of people in Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

"Supporting employee volunteers is a continuation of that," she said.

Two RFAH employees volunteer with the 4-H clubs in their hometowns. John Meagher, who works in facility services at River Falls Area Hospital, is an instructor for Hudson Trail Blazers 4-H in St. Croix County.

"I do whatever the club needs me to," said Meagher, a Hudson resident. From his work at the hospital, he sees "how many people out there need help," he said. He believes 4-H is a terrific program that helps young people develop leadership skills.

Jean VanderMarliere, a physical therapy assistant at River Falls Area Hospital, lives in Ellsworth and is an instructor for the summer riding program at Pierce County 4-H.

"It makes me feel good donating time to these kids," VanderMarliere said. "I love watching them grow and experience different things."

Although both employees said they would volunteer even if they didn't have the Dollars for Doers incentive, the program is a nice bonus.
