Hospitalist program

Hospitalists are a core group of physicians that devote a significant portion of their medical practice to hospitalized patients at Allina Health United Hospital – Hastings Regina Campus. They bring added skills and expertise to the patients they care for in the Medical/Surgical, Special Care, and GRACE units. When they are on the hospitalist schedule, these physicians admit, evaluate and manage the care of patients.

How does the hospitalist program benefit patients?

Because Hospitalists are scheduled on a weekly basis, the same physician may care for you during your entire hospital stay. This doctor is available to you and your family daily to answer questions and discuss your care. Each day, your care and progress is reviewed by a team of professionals that includes nurses, pharmacists, social workers, dietitians, and and respiratory and physical therapists.

Will my own doctor be informed about my progress?

A high priority is placed on good communication with your primary doctor. Telephone calls, electronic messages and written reports about your progress keep your doctor in the communication loop. When you are discharged from the hospital, your own doctor resumes your care.

What if I don't have a regular doctor?

The Hastings Regina Hospitalists, or other hospital staff, can assist you in finding a doctor to see you after you are discharged from the hospital. Your medical record information can be sent to the doctor you choose.
