Current needs

  • The NUMC Foundation Advisory Board selects priorities for our fundraising efforts each year that are aligned with our community's health and medical center needs. In 2018, our continued focus will be Hearts Beat Back: The Heart of New Ulm Project

    Heart of New Ulm Project

The Heart of New Ulm Project is a 10-year research and demonstration project that began in 2009 which aims to decrease heart attacks in New Ulm through health care service enhancements, lifestyle change programs, and environmental policy changes. The New Ulm Medical Center Foundation is raising $100,000 for the Heart of New Ulm Project. Please go to our Ways to Give page if you would like to contribute to this project.

    Fund for Excellence

The New Ulm Medical Center Foundation’s Fund for Excellence has funded many projects. This fund is an unrestricted fund which allows the Foundation Board to fund immediate or emergent needs. Here are some examples of recent impact:

    • Patient Assistance Fund – A gift to the Patient Assistance Program supports under-served patients with expenses due to a current or existing condition that has affected their ability to provide for their immediate needs.
    • New software in surgery to enhance the safety of accessing images on the patients chart without delay.
    • Facility-wide we have provided Pocket Talkers to help our staff work with patients with hearing deficits.
    • For Radiology we funded a Hausted Video Imaging Chair used for video fluoroscopic swallow studies for speech therapy patients. The old chair required several transfers of the patient during the imaging process.
    • For Outpatient Mental Health we provided six small and two large Alpha-Stim devices. Alpha-Stim is prescription medical technology approved by the FDA to treat anxiety, depression, insomnia and pain. It provides micro current electrical therapy (MET) using waveforms to deliver low level electrical current.
    • Residential Substance Abuse received a factory-grade treadmill for inpatient use, as fitness is a critical aspect of their treatment.
    • Placed AEDs in schools.
    • Supported needs for the Garden of Hope, Serenity Garden and hospital front entrance garden. Also supported bird seed and feeders for the Garden of Hope so that patients and families can enjoy bird watching during treatment.
    • Funded ResQCPR-EMS Pumps, a multi-use device that will be installed in 15 area rescue vehicles including Allina vehicles, New Ulm Police Department, Brown County Sheriff Department and Courtland Fire Department.
    • New Telehealth Room coming this year, which will decrease the need for patients to have to drive out of New Ulm to see a specialist.
    • Children’s Hospitals and Clinics Simulation Bus – mobile unit that provides high quality simulated hands on training to nurses and other health professionals to keep them up to speed on working with pediatric patients at New Ulm Medical Center.
    • Provided prescription assistance, travel, gas cards and groceries to 27 patients in need.
    • Provided five employees with funds when they ran into a crisis that was outside of their control (a tragic and isolated event).
