Apple-cherry cinnamon compote

    Apple-cherry cinnamon compote Heart Smart Gluten Free Low Sodium

    The sweetness in this dessert comes from natural sugars in the fruit and maple syrup. 


    2 teaspoons unsalted butter
    2 soft apples, diced (such as Fuji, Golden Delicious or McIntosh)
    1/3 cup unsweetened dried cherries
    1 tablespoon maple syrup
    1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon


    1. Melt butter in a saucepan. Add diced apples and dried cherries. Cook 6 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally.
    2. Add syrup and cinnamon. Cook another 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.
    3. Serve warm over low-fat vanilla ice cream or cake, or layered with Greek yogurt.*
