    Mental health conditions affect a person’s thinking, feelings, mood, ability to relate to others and everyday life. These conditions, like many other medical conditions, are common and treatable.

    How common are mental health conditions and addiction?

    Mental health conditions and addiction can affect anyone. If you or a loved one is having difficulties coping, it's important to know you are not alone.

    • One in four people will experience a mental health condition at some point in his or her life.
    • One in five children lives with a mental health condition.
    • About one in 10 people will experience a more serious mental health condition, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.
    • There are 23.5 million Americans addicted to alcohol and drugs.
    • People with mental health conditions wait an average of 10 years before seeking treatment.
