Physical adjustments

    • You will need to take medicines for the rest of your life to keep your body from rejecting the kidney.
    • You will need to watch your weight, blood pressure, temperature and blood glucose. This may mean you need to make changes in your diet.
    • You will need to get regular exercise.
    • You may need to take several medicines, which may cause side effects.

    Emotional adjustments

    • You will need to keep all lab and clinic visits, even if you feel well. This is very important.
    • You may feel depressed.
    • If the kidney is from a living donor you know (such as a family member) you may feel like you "owe" him or her. You may feel extra pressure to be healthy to not disappoint that person.
