Spiced-up turkey sausage

Ingredients

1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon ground thyme
1 1/4 teaspoons ground sage
2 teaspoons parsley flakes, crushed
1 pound 93% lean ground turkey
nonstick cooking spray

Directions

  1. In a medium mixing bowl,combine all spices and herbs. Mix until well-blended.
  2. Add ground turkey. Using your hands, mix turkey and seasonings together. Then, shape turkey mixture into 8 2-ounce patties.
  3. Spray frying pan with nonstick cooking spray. Place patties in pan and cook until lightly browned. Flip and cook until second side is lightly browned and kitchen thermometer inserted into the middle of a patty reaches at least 165 F.
  4. Serve warm.

Mixing up the meat and seasonings the night before will allow for the flavors in this recipe to fully develop. Cover the formed patties and place them in the refrigerator to chill overnight. When it’s time for breakfast, continue with step 3 (cooking the patties) so they’re hot and ready to add spice to your morning meal!
