A concussion is a blow to the head that affects how the brain works. Concussions can happen in free play, recreational sports, youth leagues, or in high school and college sports.
Courage Kenny Sports & Physical Therapy is proud to partner with schools in the communities surrounding Buffalo, New Ulm and Cambridge to bring ImPACT™ (Immediate Postconcussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) to student athletes.
ImPACT is a 20-minute test that has become a standard tool used in clinical management of concussions. Memory, impulse control, and reaction time are measured.
ImPACT offers an accurate assessment of brain recovery, enabling a better and safer decision as to when an athlete can return to play. Optimally, after an injury, a post-injury test can be compared to a baseline test taken by the same individual prior to the beginning of the sports season. If there is no baseline, the post-injury results may be compared to national norms.
ImPACT testing is available at no cost to student athletes in area schools surrounding Buffalo and New Ulm, Minnesota. It is funded by the charitable foundations at Buffalo Hospital and New Ulm Medical Center.
For other community members, such as those who received head trauma in automobile or other types of accidents, there is a nominal charge for the test.
On a beautiful September evening, Brandon Polesky made a spectacular play, knocking a ball down on defense early in the game, a play he may never remember.
