Community Behavioral Services

  • Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute offers community-based services to help adults and children with behavioral issues attain and maintain independence. Due to a variety of reasons, individuals may experience difficulties with social skills, decision making, frustration tolerance, and other behaviors.

We work to help provide structure and support to clients and their families as well as address behaviors that may interfere with success in various community settings.

Referrals typically come from case managers, who would oversee funding and administration of these services.

A team composed of a behavior professional and a behavior analyst coordinates, directs and provides behavior services in the community. Services include:

    • functional assessment of behavioral issues
    • development and implementation of individualized behavior treatment plans
    • work with individuals in community-based settings
    • training regarding behavioral issues and strategies for family members and care staff

A comprehensive assessment of the client and their needs is conducted by a licensed mental health professional and an individualized behavior plan is developed. The program is implemented by a behavior analyst, who meets with the client and team members, most often on a weekly basis, in the community setting where behaviors occur.

Recommendations may include changes to the client’s physical environment, establishing structure or routine, ensuring consistency across environments, or introduction of specific reinforcement-based behavior programs.

The goal is to provide the client and those around them with tools to:

    • live successfully in the community
    • control behavior outbursts
    • increase socialization skills
    • increase participation and responsibility for self
    • improve focus and productivity
    • improve response to rehabilitation goals
    • improve interpersonal skills
