Q. Where can I drop off the vehicle that I am donating?
A. You
can bring your vehicle to any one of our drop-off locations. If you wish to come to our main
location to meet with a staff member, no appointment is necessary. Staff are
available to assist you Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. at 3915 Golden
Valley Rd., Minneapolis, MN 55422. For your convenience, we have an after-hours
drop box available. Please call for specific directions.
Q. If I am not near a drop-off location or I need my vehicle picked
up, how do I arrange it?
A. We provide fast, free pick up of your
vehicle with no cost to you. Just fill out this towing information form to donate your
vehicle.
Q. Can I designate my gift to a specific area of Courage Kenny
Rehabilitation Institute?
A. Yes! If you have a specific program
or area that holds a special interest for you, you can designate your donation
and be assured that your gift will be used as you have requested. If you do not
have a particular area in mind, unrestricted support is our greatest need.
Q. Is my donation tax deductible?
A.
Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute is a nonprofit, 501C3 organization.
If you itemize your taxes, your donation is tax deductible.
Q. How is my tax deduction determined?
A.
Generally, your charitable contribution deduction is the gross proceeds from the
sale of your vehicle. If your vehicle is in good condition, Courage Kenny
Rehabilitation Institute will work to get a gross proceeds from the sale of your
vehicle close to the Kelley Blue Book Private Party Sale value. If the vehicle
sells for $500 or less, your deduction is whatever you feel the fair market
value of the vehicle is at the time of donation up to $500.
There are exceptions in the case that Courage Kenny
Rehabilitation Institute makes a repair to your vehicle or uses the vehicle in
providing services. In those cases, the fair market value of the vehicle at the
time of donation can be used for tax purposes.
Q. What condition must my vehicle be in to donate
it?
A. We are happy to accept any vehicle with a clear title,
running or not. Towing is available.
Q. What does Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute do
with the donated vehicles?
A. After we receive your vehicle, our
staff, determines where to sell it for the highest possible return, through a
variety of selling venues including retail auctions, to maximize the value of
your gift. Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute handles all legal documents
and provides you with receipts and information for your tax deduction once the
vehicle has sold. Proceeds help support nearly 70 therapeutic and life-enriching
programs for children and adults with disabilities.
Q. What types of vehicles does Cars for Courage Kenny
accept?
A. We accept cars, trucks, boats with trailers, personal
watercraft, RV's, campers, snowmobiles, motorcycles and other vehicles. Boats
and watercraft should be 1980 or newer, in good, running condition, used in the
past 2 years and have a trailer (some exceptions for non-motorized craft). It
is important that you provide all the necessary registrations and titles. We
provide free pick-up of all watercraft. Call 612-775-2500. We
will provide any assistance needed.
Q. When does my liability for the vehicle end and who
transfers the title?
A. On the day Courage Kenny Rehabilitation
Institute receives your vehicle, our insurance provides coverage. We will handle
all transfer documents according to State Department of Vehicle Services
guidelines, and provide you with receipts and information for your tax
deduction.
