Research has shown that the longer patients are involved with treatment the greater the rate of long-term, sustained recovery. This is especially true with adolescents.
Dellwood's outpatient program is designed to help adolescents recover from substance abuse and provide them with long-term support while keeping them connected to their schools and communities.
The program is based on the concepts and philosophies of Alcoholics Anonymous and also addresses the many issues that adolescents face today.
This three-phase program meets after school.
Dellwood Recovery Center provides transportation to the program for local adolescents. Cambridge-Isanti High School students are picked up from school and returned to school after group sessions end.
Local transportation can also be arranged for other patients with transportation difficulties.
The majority of treatment is conducted through group therapy sessions with other adolescents led by an experienced, professional licensed alcohol and drug counselor.
Individual needs and issues also are addressed in one-on-one counseling sessions. Each patient receives a minimum of two one-on-one counseling sessions per phase.
The involvement of family and concerned persons is vitally important for the patient's recovery. We place a special emphasis on working with families and concerned persons to help patients gain and maintain recovery. A family/concerned person's group therapy session is offered weekly for support and education.
In addition, one-on-one meetings with a counselor are offered to family/concerned persons in each phase of the program.
Teen Intervene is a non-confrontational program that provides education and support for teens that have experienced mild to moderate chemical use. The goal is to educate teens about chemical use, create doubt regarding continued use, and set goals to reduce and quite chemical use.
The program consists of four, one-hour one-on-one sessions with a licensed alcohol and drug counselor. It uses a series of questions and activities that have successfully helped teens evaluate their chemical use and consider the consequences verses the benefits of continued use.
