Emergency Department

  • Emergency care is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by physicians specializing in emergency medicine.

    The Minnesota Department of Health has designated the Cambridge Medical Center emergency room (ER) a Level IV Trauma Hospital.

    We are also an affiliate of the Level One Heart Attack Treatment Program and the Stroke Treatment Network of Abbott Northwestern Hospital.

    For minor illnesses and injuries

    If you are unable to see your primary care provider when you want or need to, the Same Day Clinic is available for minor illnesses and injuries.

    ER entrance:  A new $10.5 million Emergency Department opened for patient care on Sept. 6, 2012. The new ER is equipped with the latest in medical technology and is designed to deliver care in a private setting. The new ER has 21 patient treatment rooms—all private, including 13 exam rooms, 4 trauma/cardiac care rooms, 4 secure mental health rooms, and a decontamination room. There are also private triage rooms and a private consultation room for families. ER Lobby:  A bright and spacious lobby provides a welcoming environment for patients and their families coming to the Emergency Department. ER Triage Room: Patients who walk-in to the ER first meet with a nurse in the privacy of a triage room to discuss their health concerns. Trauma Room:  Four large trauma/cardiac rooms for treating critically ill patients all have advanced equipment, including beds with built-in scales and radiology technology. ER Exam Room:  Each of the 21 patient treatment rooms in the ER is private and designed for patient comfort and privacy. Rooms are equipped with advanced medical equipment as well as flat screen TVs, comfortable lighting, and space for loved ones to be close. ER Family Room: For families that need a place to be alone with loved ones, the family waiting room provides a comfortable place to gather in private. Other smaller waiting areas are located close to patient rooms.

    Assessment and referral: Questions and answer

    Assessment and referral is a hospital-based service that responds to mental health or substance abuse crisis. Services are provided in the hospital emergency department 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • Emergencies

    For all emergencies, call 911.

    Non-emergencies

    Your primary care provider can help you with preventive care and most same-day needs, including illnesses and injuries. 

    For non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries that require more immediate attention, you can find the care you need at an urgent care location. No appointment needed.

    Cambridge Medical Center is designated an acute stroke ready hospital by the State, which means that medical staff is prepared to stabilize stroke patients and administer life-saving medications.

    Patients have 24-hour access to stroke care experts at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
