U.S. News & World Report ranks Abbott Northwestern Hospital #1 in Twin Cities

MINNEAPOLIS 07/21/2015

Abbott Northwestern Hospital retained first place ranking for the Best Hospital in the Twin Cities and second best in Minnesota in the U.S. News & World Report's 2015-16 Best Hospital rankings released today.

In addition to the state and regional rankings, Abbott Northwestern Hospital also received national recognition in five specialty areas: Cardiology and Heart Surgery (#37); Geriatrics (#40); Gynecology (#10), Neurology and Neurosurgery (#46) and Orthopedics (#19). Fewer than three percent of the nearly 5,000 hospitals that were analyzed for Best Hospitals 2015-16 were nationally ranked in even one specialty.

Mercy Hospital, Coon Rapids, was ranked third in the metro and fifth in the state and also received regional recognition in three specialty areas, for Gastroenterology & Gastrointestinal Surgery, Orthopedics and Pulmonology, and was rated a high performing hospital for heart failure.

Unity Hospital, Fridley, was ranked fifth in the metro and seventh in the state and also received regional recognition in two specialty areas, Gastroenterology & Gastrointestinal Surgery and Pulmonology.

United Hospital, St. Paul, was rated a high performing hospital for heart failure, in the top 11 percent of all hospitals rated for this condition.

All four hospitals are part of Allina Health.

"We are very proud of the recognition our hospitals have received in the new U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings today," said Penny Wheeler, MD, president and chief executive officer, Allina Health. "We are particularly pleased to have the top performing hospital for care in Abbott Northwestern. The outstanding care recognized in this report can be found all across the entire Allina Health system of 13 hospitals and 90+ clinics. It's part our mission commitment, to make a difference in people's lives by providing exceptional care and service no matter which Allina Health clinic or hospital someone enters."

The rankings are freely available at health.usnews.com and will appear in the U.S. News "Best Hospitals 2016" guidebook, available in August.
