After completing a comprehensive review of the obstetrical services offered at Mercy and Unity hospitals, Allina Health has decided to combine the programs into one all-inclusive program at The Mother Baby Center at Mercy with Children’s, located in Coon Rapids, Minn. The new center, a partnership between Allina Health and Children’s Hospitals & Clinics of Minnesota, is opening July 27, 2015.
"This is an exciting time for our hospitals and communities," said Sara Criger, senior vice president, north region and president, Mercy Hospital. "Mercy continues to develop expertise in high-risk deliveries; and with Children’s, will offer a cutting-edge special care nursery. Unity Hospital has developed expertise in water births and nurse midwifery services. The consolidation into one comprehensive program and location will allow our patients easy access to the full complement of services we offer."
"This merger of these two programs creates wonderful opportunities for our staff and the community," Helen Strike, president, Unity Hospital, said. "The ability to be innovative with our obstetrical services is possible because of the unique relationship Mercy and Unity have within Allina Health. We look forward to having the ability to care for more patients in the beautiful new facility on the Mercy Hospital campus."
At this time, the Birth Center programs and services at each location are operating as usual. The consolidation of programs will occur throughout the next few months. Allina Health is working directly with providers to help make this transition as seamless as possible for patients and their families. Patients are encouraged to contact their provider with any questions.
"Our caregivers and patients will both see huge benefits from this change," said Penny Wheeler, MD, president and CEO, Allina Health. "Our staff will be able to expand on their skills in a new, state-of-the art facility, while our patients will have the opportunity to choose from a wider variety of services for a comfortable, personalized birthing experience."
