Mercy Hospital has
provided cancer treatment services to the community for more
than 20 years. Allina Health proudly announces that the cancer
program at Mercy has received Virginia Piper Cancer
"This designation validates our longstanding promise to
patients that they will receive exceptional, high quality
cancer care at Mercy Hospital, in collaboration with
Minnesota Oncology," said Ryan Else, MD, vice president
of Medical Affairs, Mercy Hospital.
Patients who are currently receiving cancer care at Mercy
Hospital will soon be able to take advantage of a new,
centralized cancer clinic which is set to open in February in
the newly constructed Mercy Specialty Center.
"This strategic design brings together services for patients
and offers greater convenience," said Noel Laudi, MD, medical
oncologist with Minnesota Oncology and medical director of Oncology Services for Mercy.
"Patients will have access to the Virginia Piper Cancer
Institute Cancer Clinic and offices for Minnesota Oncology,
Minnesota Radiation Oncology and the Courage Kenny
Rehabilitation Institute all in the same building."
In order to achieve designation as a Virginia Piper Cancer
Institute, sites must employ a consistent set of quality
standards. These include multidisciplinary care conferences
to discuss patient cases, cancer care coordination, on-site
or access to genetic counseling services, and adherence to
National Comprehensive Cancer Network evidence-based cancer
Sites must also have or work toward accreditation from the
American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer®.
Mercy currently holds a commendation for its cancer program.

The Virginia Piper Cancer Institute provides comprehensive care through all aspects of cancer prevention, early detection and treatment to help individuals maintain quality of life and find ways to live with and beyond cancer. The Institute was founded in 1990 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. Both are part of Allina Health.
