Allina Health collecting bike donations for Free Bikes 4 Kidz

MINNEAPOLIS 09/24/2013

Allina Health is teaming up Free Bikes 4 Kidz for the third year in a row to again collect donated bicycles for kids in need throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Kids will also receive free bicycle helmets and concussion prevention information from Allina Health when the donated bikes are distributed later this fall. Free Bikes 4 Kidz is a non-profit organization geared toward helping all kids ride into a happier, healthier childhood by providing bikes to those most in need.

"Biking can be a life-long pastime. Many of our employees are avid cyclists, and we want to help make it possible for every child to participate in this healthy, fun and environmentally-friendly activity," says Kenneth H. Paulus, president and CEO of Allina Health. "We want to put kids back on the streets. Biking is fun, a great way to get around and excellent exercise."

Allina Health and community volunteers will be at 51 Allina Health locations on Saturday, October 12, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to accept donations of gently used or new bikes. For a complete list of collection sites, go to

Last year Allina Health and Free Bikes 4 Kidz collected more than 5,000 bikes. They were refurbished and redistributed in December, just in time for the holidays. This year Free Bikes 4 Kidz is seeking volunteers to again help clean and prepare the donated bike for the December 2013 distribution. For more information and to volunteer visit
